About our Body Lift

People go on weight loss diets and workout programs all the time. However, when a person engages in extensive weight loss, like the “Biggest Loser” or undergo Bariatric Surgery, they are left with extra skin, which does not retract. As a result, the excessive drooping and wrinkled skin is difficult to hide with clothing. In addition, these love handles and extra folds aren’t just fashion downers. They cause hygiene and other health issues. Our body lift surgery can help address these problems.

Candidates for the Procedure

  • People who have undergone extensive weight loss
  • Overhanging skin that may restrict mobility
  • Overhanging skin that causes painful chafing, rashes or infection.
  • Non-smoker
  • Maintaining a stable weight
  • Good physical health
  • Positive outlook and realistic expectations

Details of Procedure

At Fairbanks Plastic Surgery, The Body Lift is a series of several procedures: Abdominoplasty (Tummy Tuck),  Medial Thigh Lift,  Lateral Thigh-buttock Lift, Mastopexy (Breast Lift), and Brachioplasty (Arm Lift). Additional body contouring procedures can be done such as Liposuction and Fat GraftingCarefully planning the body contouring surgery will help achieve the desired results. If you are closer to your ideal weight before surgery, then your results will be more satisfying.

The majority of the procedures are found in other sections of this website where that information is found.

The lower body lift/lateral thigh-buttock lift requires an incision in the waistband area of the hips and back, at the site of where the excess skin and fat is removed. The scar can be hidden with under garments or swim wear.

The medial thigh lift requires an incision in the upper inner thigh crease. This incision allows mobilization and the excision of the skin and fat. The scar is within the natural folds or the thigh area and not easily noticed. Sometimes, excess inner thigh skin requires a vertical incision, extending towards the knee, when there is too much laxity.

At least two weeks off of work is highly recommended after undergoing body lift procedures. Time allows the patient to have a better chance to heal without increasing the risk of complications. As expected with most procedures there will be some discomfort initially. However, the discomfort lessens day by day and pain medications will help. Recovery time may vary on the individual and intensity of the procedure. Therefore your physician will consult with you about post-surgery care.

What can I expect?

The various plastic surgery procedures involved in our body lift or body contouring procedures need to be planned appropriately to ensure the best results. Above all, we care to protect the patient’s health.

Scaring is always a concern. For this reason, our procedures are designed so that the scars are strategically hidden, as best possible.  At Fairbanks Plastic Surgery we make your health and safety our primary concern while working toward you ultimate results.

Will my results last?

A body lift does not ensure resistance to future weight gain or laxity of skin. But maintaining a healthy diet and steady exercise will help keep your weight managed and increase quality-of-life.
