Looking angry or tired is not a pleasant thing, especially when you’re feeling good. Some people are asked if they are upset when in fact, they are feeling great. This angry or tired look is usually because of the development of extra wrinkles between the eyebrows or of the forehead. This is associated with drooping eyebrows. One will typically raise the eyebrows to see better, without even knowing it, which will lead to the forehead wrinkles.
The forehead lift or brow lift is a wonderful operation which improves the patient’s appearance to a remarkable degree. Raising the brows not only provides for a more awake and cheerful look, but also typically improves the patient’s vision to some degree. If necessary, the forehead lift may also be done in conjunction with eyelid surgery (blepharoplasty).
The typical candidates for Forehead lift surgery include:
Multiple approaches to the forehead lift may be taken, depending upon the patient’s needs and anatomy. This is done to hide the incisions as best as possible. The incisions may be placed in front of, or behind the hairline. The amount of skin to be raised is determined and removed. The muscles that cause the frowning wrinkles between the eyes, the anger lines, may also be treated at this time.
This is an example of a brow lift and in addition a blepharoplasty.

For most individuals, forehead lift recovery is better than anticipated. Most require less pain medication compared to other cosmetic procedures. Some feel that they can be more active after surgery as a result. Rest and relaxation are strongly recommended so that the individual may heal well with less bruising and swelling. The forehead lift patient notices improvement each day as the swelling goes down. Dressing changes are done within the first week after surgery. Typically the patient can shower within 3 days of the procedure. Instructions are given to help understand how to care for the incision sites and activity limitations. By six weeks the patient is able to resume all activities to include aggressive exercise.
The results from a forehead lift will likely seem dramatic to the patient, yet subtle to others. Results will vary with each patient. The forehead lift can help with a positive outlook on life. A lifestyle that is active and healthy will help to better maintain this younger and more alert looking appearance. A proper diet and regular exercise will increase quality of life by decreasing unwanted weight gain, which can be seen in the face.
The forehead lift performed at Fairbanks Plastic Surgery often has results that keep a person looking more alert for more than 10 years after the procedure. As compared to their photographs before the surgery, patients feel that their appearance is more youthful and pleasing.
